From 18th July to 1st September Elisa (16 years old – Italian) spent two weeks at St. Joseph Foundation UK attending an English Course in the morning and working as volunteer in a charity shop in the afternoon – Cancer Research UK. Elisa wrote us a letter about this experience. Thanks Elisa and we hope to welcome you again next Summer!
Hi, I am Elisa
during this two weeks from 18th july to 1sr august, I had the opportunity of working in a charity shop, called “cancer research uk”, and on saturdays I worked at “Cookie”, a cafè near the Oakwood tube station.
Every Morning I attended lessons in college, and after lunch, I took the bus 299, or I walked, and I arrived at the shop. There, I have met new people, from the ages of 16 to 65, who taught me how to be business minded; but, more importantly, I talked a lot with young people, and this has helped me to improve my knowledge of english.
It was very enjoyable because i Tried a lot of different things, like being at the checkout and putting prices on clothes. It was very interesting!
On saturdays, I went twice to Cookie from 9.00 am to 3.30 pm. This was a very challenging work experience, because I had to clean an to serve tables, but I had a very good time doing it.
I learnt a lot from these two very different but exciting jobs, and I was very enthusiastic and delighted to be there.
I home I will have this experience again in the future!
Elisa
